Albertina (1823-1890) |
In 1843 she married Giuseppe d’Harcourt. Albertina was born in Novara in the Barbavara house on 8th November 1823. She was the first of eight children of Carlo Emanuele and Marianna. Her baptism took place on 16th December in San Giovanni and “she was held at the font by his Royal Highness Prince Alberto di Carignano and Princess Maria Teresa di Toscana”. She is the only grandchild to appear in the portrait by Pietro Ayres. The little girl bore the name of the king and close friend of her father, Carlo Alberto, who was godfather at her baptism. Albertina was to play an important role in the history of the family. In 1843 she married Giuseppe d’Harcourt with whom she had four children: Erasmo, Edoardo and Giulio who died at birth and Maria Luisa (1847-1927). It was this daughter’s destiny to carry on the Ferrero della Marmora line. In 1871 Maria Luisa married her uncle Tommaso, son of Carlo Emanuele, to whom she gave three children: Guido Edoardo who died at birth, Amedeo Giuseppe (1872-1873) and Enrichetta (1874-1948). This daughter was granted permission by the king to hand down the surname Ferrero della Marmora to her descendants and it is from her and her marriage to Mario Mori Ubaldini degli Alberti that the present generation was born. |
