He was the tenth child and fifth son of Celestino and Raffaella Ferrero della Marmora. Leaving the priesthood after a few years, he began his military career in the Geneva Dragoons and later joined the Royal Piedmont Cavalry. While he was serving in this unit as captain he was obliged to leave active service after a fall from his horse which left him crippled for life. He continued his service as Quartermaster in the company of the King’s bodyguards where he stayed until 1851. He died in 1874 and was buried in San Sebastiano in Biella with the other members of his family. |
